You don’t have to do it alone… we can help.

One of the most difficult things to do is to ask for help. Many of us were raised to believe we had to muscle through, tolerate things that “aren’t that bad”, figure it out, and put on a brave face.

Tend and Cultivate Counselling is a soft place to land when you’re ready for a change. Life can be overwhelming and sometimes we struggle with difficult, complex, and messy things. Our team of specialized counsellors can support you and join you in the exploring new ways forward.

We believe you to be the expert in your life and we understand the strength, resilience, and creativity it took for you to arrive here, now. If you’d like to feel less alone in what you’re going through, we’re here to help.

Our unique specialties and areas of expertise are below. Take a look and don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

Eating disorders & disordered eating

Eating disorders and disordered eating can disrupt our lives in significant ways. Our ED-specializing counsellors can work with you to uncovering new insights about yourself and your relationship with food, and they can support you in practicing new coping strategies for understanding and navigating those disordered patterns.

Relationship counselling

Relationships can be our greatest source of growth and meaning, and also a source of deep wounding and stress. We can help you learn new communication skills, navigate complex issues, explore mismatched libido, and find new ways forward. We work with couples, triads, monogamous, non-monogamous, heterosexual, LGBTQIA+, and kinky relationships.

Body acceptance and pleasure

What does it mean to trust your body? To have a caring, gentle relationship with it? To celebrate the things that make you feel good without apology? In a world steeped in diet culture, fatphobia, and ableism, it can be SO hard to unlearn the cruel ways we think about bodies, but discovering your body story and connecting with your pleasure, satisfaction, and joy can be an important step to living life on YOUR terms.

Trauma & Complex PTSD

If you have experienced (or continue to experience) trauma – and let’s be honest, that’s most of us – finding gentle, body-honouring ways to tend to yourself and what has happened to you can lead you towards more agency, choice, and connection. We also specialize in supporting adults who were parentified as a child. Our trauma therapists can help you cultivate new ways forward.

We also support people with…

Anxiety, depression, grief, life changes/big transitions, boundaries, perfectionism, finding ways to thrive & resist systemic oppression, and cultivating meaning.

Welcoming your full experience

While some people seek therapy around exciting times of change, most of our clients come to us when things are difficult. We know you are so much more than the worst thing that’s happened (or happening) to you.

Our counsellors are specifically trained to welcome your full experience – your questions, your big emotions, your fears and bad days, just as much as your joy, progress, hopes, and dreams.

While we work with clients in every size body, we specialize in providing non-stigmatizing care to the unique experiences that those in bigger and plus sized bodies face.
